Cricket Worldcup: 2023
The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 is the 13th edition of the premier one-day international cricket tournament, which will be held in India from 5 October to 19 November. The tournament will feature 10 teams, eight of which have already qualified through the Cricket World Cup Super League, while the remaining two will be decided by the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe. The tournament will follow a round-robin format, where each team will play against every other team once, for a total of 45 league matches. The top four teams at the end of the league stage will advance to the semi-finals, which will be held in Mumbai and Kolkata on 15 and 16 November respectively. The final will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 19 November.
The tournament will kick off with a blockbuster clash between the 2019 World Cup finalists England and New Zealand at Ahmedabad on 5 October. The hosts India will begin their campaign on 8 October against five-time champions Australia at Chennai. Some of the other key fixtures include India vs Pakistan at Ahmedabad on 15 October, Australia vs South Africa at Lucknow on 13 October, Pakistan vs Australia at Bengaluru on 20 October, England vs South Africa at Mumbai on 21 October, India vs New Zealand at Dharamsala on 22 October, and Australia vs England at Ahmedabad on 4 November.
The tournament will be played across 10 venues in India, namely Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Pune. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which is the world’s largest cricket stadium with a capacity of 132,000 spectators, will host nine matches including the opener, the final and four other league matches. Mumbai and Kolkata will host six matches each, while Chennai, Delhi and Lucknow will host five matches each. Bengaluru, Dharamsala, Hyderabad and Pune will host four matches each. Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram will join Hyderabad in hosting the practice games.
The tournament is expected to attract millions of fans from around the world, who will witness some of the best cricketing action and entertainment. The ICC has announced that the tournament will be the biggest ever Men’s Cricket World Cup in terms of broadcast coverage and digital engagement. The tournament will also showcase the rich diversity and culture of India, as well as its passion for cricket.
